“Ameena”, produced and directed by Kumar Raj, has completed an uninterrupted 100-week run in theatres — a landmark accomplishment rarely seen in modern cinema and the first such achievement in nearly three decades.

Kumar Raj, known internationally in maritime circles as Capt. Raj Raney, spent many years navigating the world’s oceans as a Captain in the merchant navy. The discipline, patience and clarity required in navigation have profoundly influenced his approach to filmmaking.
His cinematic style reflects structural precision combined with emotional depth, often addressing themes of dignity, justice and the empowerment of women.
Produced under Kumar Raj Productions, Ameena is inspired by the acclaimed stage play “Yahaan Ameena Bikti Hai” by award-winning playwright Aftab Hasnain. The cinematic adaptation was developed through story, screenplay and dialogue by Dr. Prof. Kishan Pawar in collaboration with Hasnain, creating a work that successfully bridges the intensity of theatre with the realism of cinema.
A notable aspect of Ameena is its narrative structure, which blends theatrical expression with lived social realities, presenting a form that is both immersive and reflective. Supported by advanced 7.1 Dolby Atmos sound design, the film emphasizes emotional authenticity rather than spectacle.
The film is anchored by a powerful and nuanced performance from lead actress Rekha Rana, whose portrayal balances vulnerability with strength. Her interpretation of the character offers emotional complexity and depth that has resonated strongly with audiences.
Rekha Rana gained international recognition for her role in “Tara – The Journey of Love and Passion”, also produced and directed by Kumar Raj. At the height of her acting career, she chose a deeply spiritual path and stepped away from mainstream cinema to dedicate her life to faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She now focuses on Bible-based ministry and teachings at their international headquarters in New York, adding a distinctive dimension to her artistic journey.
Kumar Raj himself appears in the film as the Police Chief Commissioner, while veteran actor Anant Mahadevan contributes intellectual gravitas to the narrative. The unmistakable and commanding voice of Raza Murad adds dramatic authority to the film.

The musical score is composed by the renowned Ismail Darbar, celebrated internationally for his work in landmark films such as Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Vocals by Javed Ali and other leading voices add lyrical richness to the film’s emotional narrative.
Sound design by Nihar Ranjan Samal, known for acclaimed films including 3 Idiots, Piku, Pink and Bajirao Mastani, enhances the immersive cinematic experience. Post-production was completed at AFTER Studios, ensuring a refined visual presentation aligned with global production standards.
Filming for Ameena took place across several continents, reflecting the film’s expansive creative vision. Locations include Paris and Cannes in France, Dakar and the Fathala wildlife region in Senegal, Togo, Banjul in Gambia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Los Angeles in the United States, and locations across India including Mumbai and Karjat.
A complete song performed by Rekha Rana was filmed inside the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, bringing extraordinary architectural grandeur into the cinematic narrative.

Before Ameena, Kumar Raj’s feature film “Tara – The Journey of Love & Passion” achieved remarkable international recognition, receiving 590 international awards and being featured in 35 World Book of Records worldwide. The film was also selected from West Africa for consideration in the Academy Awards category for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2026, Kumar Raj was nominated for the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors conferred by the President of India.
Kumar Raj has pursued advanced management education at Harvard University, the University of Cambridge and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He further studied filmmaking and direction at Digital Academy and film production at ZIMA.
