Abhishek Bachchan backs HSBC Rugby Premier League powered by Avid Season 2, calls it “mind-blowing”

Hyderabad : Actor and sports enthusiast Abhishek Bachchan has thrown his support behind the HSBC Rugby Premier League powered by Avid Season 2, expressing his excitement for the return of India’s premier professional rugby competition and the introduction of the women’s competition this season.
In a video message shared on social media, Bachchan reflected on the inaugural season of the league and highlighted the impact it had on Indian sports fans.
The second season of the HSBC Rugby Premier League powered by Avid is being held at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to June 28, bringing together some of the world’s leading Rugby Sevens stars alongside India’s finest talent. The men’s competition features six city-based franchises — Bengaluru Bravehearts, Chennai Bulls, Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kalinga Black Tigers and Mumbai Dreamers.

A landmark addition this season is the women’s competition, featuring four franchises — Chennai Bulls, Delhi Redz, Mumbai Dreamers and Kolkata Heroes. The introduction of the women’s league marks a significant milestone for rugby in India and reinforces the league’s commitment to creating more opportunities for female athletes while accelerating the growth of the sport across the country.
“Last year, we had the Rugby Premier League in Mumbai and it just blew my mind. It was so exciting to see some of the best rugby players in the world come to India and play,” said Bachchan. “This year, it happens again. But this year, we get to see the women as well, which is going to be insane. I think it’s the first time that we get to see women’s rugby being played in a professional league in India.”
Bachchan also encouraged fans to experience the action live in Hyderabad.
“I can’t wait. It’s super exciting. The RPL last year was mind-blowing. This year is going to be even better because of the ladies. So 16th to 28th of June at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, between 7.30 to 10 in the evening, it’s going to be insane. All the very best to all the players,” he concluded.
