New Delhi : Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has been assigned the additional role of Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Modi-led NDA government’s third term. Vaishnaw will continue to oversee his current responsibilities as Minister of Railways and Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Vaishnaw’s new appointment includes working with Loganathan Murugan, who will remain the Minister of State in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Vaishnaw has a number of unresolved concerns, including developing the regulations needed to execute the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and shaping the proposed Digital India Act, which will replace the IT Act that was passed more than 20 years ago. A former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1994 batch, Vaishnaw has over 15 years of experience in public service, notably contributing to the public-private partnership (PPP) framework in infrastructure. He began his career in the IAS, earned an MBA from Wharton, and worked with GE Transportation and Siemens before entering politics.
