Actor Amal Sehrawat Opens Up About His First Big Break and Industry Struggles
Mumbai: Actor Amal Sehrawat is all charged up to face the camera once again. After a break of 3 years, the actor wants to explore the film and OTT genres a lot more. ”Initially my inclination towards acting came from the idea of fame. But as I stepped into the industry and continued my journey, I discovered something far deeper, the thrill of living different lives through a versatile range of roles. That experience truly hooked me, and over time, I began to enjoy the craft more than anything else.”
Sharing about his initial struggles in the industry Amal says, ”I entered the industry with high hopes of being recognised instantly and getting flooded with opportunities. However, reality was very different. I auditioned continuously for months without any conversions. I would often get shortlisted but couldn’t make it to the final selection. Eventually, my consistency and persistence paid off when I got my first break in a music video with Kailash Kher sir for his evergreen song Saiyaan. From there on, the journey has been onwards and upwards.”

Amal is someone who has worked with Ram Gopal Varma in films like Satya 2 and Sarkaar 3. Amal says,”My favourite Hindi film has always been Satya. The day I signed my first film contract for its sequel Satya 2, directed by Ram Gopal Varma sir, something within me said—this is the turning point. And it turned out to be true. My performance was appreciated by RGV sir as well as film critics like Taran Adarsh sir, which gave me a lot of confidence.”
Amal shares an interesting story behind the casting in the film. He says,”My photos were shortlisted, and I was called to RGV sir’s office. He gave me a scene and asked me to prepare it right there. When I went in for the audition, there was no camera. He asked me to perform live.I performed, but he wasn’t very impressed. He asked me to prepare again and come back in proper, role-appropriate costume. I did that, but couldn’t get another appointment as he got busy with pre-production. So I recorded my audition on a DVD and gave it to his Chief AD, Sujit Dube sir. Eventually, RGV sir saw my audition. and said, “I need this actor for my film.” That moment changed everything for me.”
When asked about his mentor Amal shares,”It’s difficult to name just one person. Ram Gopal Varma sir gave me my first film break, Rajan Shahi sir gave me my first television break, and my acting teachers have shaped me into who I am today. It’s really a collective mentorship of many talented and kind individuals.”
