Mumbai: Actor Abhishek Bajaj is exploring a new creative side with his first song as a singer, Sherdil – Main Aaj Vi, which he has also conceptualised. While the musical venture marks a new milestone in his journey, what makes it particularly special is the intense physical, emotional and psychological transformation he underwent to bring its concept to life.
Moving away from his familiar lover-boy image, Abhishek embraced two contrasting identities for Sherdil — ‘Dil’, the innocent lover who believes in love, and ‘Sher’, the heartbroken man who transforms his pain into power. The idea was to portray two completely different personalities, not just through their physical appearance but also through their body language, energy and attitude.
Speaking about the preparation, Abhishek reveals that the transformation required immense discipline and commitment. Sharing his experience, Abhishek says, “Sherdil was not just a physical transformation; it was an emotional and psychological journey from a lover boy to a beast. The concept was built around two identities — ‘Dil’, the innocent lover who believes in love, and ‘Sher’, the heartbroken man who transforms his pain into power.”
He further adds, “To bring this transformation alive, I pushed myself beyond my limits. I put on 5 kgs of muscle, trained for nearly 5 hours a day, every day for 60 days, followed a high-protein, calorie-deficit diet, and underwent intensive martial arts training to embody the physicality of the character. I also grew my beard to create a mane-like appearance, inspired by a lion, symbolising the emergence of the beast within.”
Concluding his thoughts, he says, “I wanted the audience to see two completely different men — not just through their appearance, but through their body language, energy and attitude. Because the idea behind Sherdil was simple: When a lover’s heart breaks, the beast is unleashed.”
