Actor Sunil Sharma Calls Dhurandhar a Career Milestone

Mumbai: Actor Sunil Sharma plays the role of Shaukat in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which features Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Despite the look test, the actor was not finalized for the role; destiny had some other plans. A look transformation for one of his South projects helped him bag the role in the superhit duology.
He calls the franchise a significant milestone in his Bollywood career and said, “I believe everything happens for a reason, and in many ways, it does feel like Dhurandhar was meant to be. Sometimes, the right role finds you at the right moment, and Dhurandhar feels exactly like that.”
Sharing details about how he bagged the role, he said, “I was called by Mukesh Chabbra, and I did a look test for the film. At the time I didn’t have much of a beard, and after waiting for a month, I called them about it, but the response wasn’t positive. But then one day I just went to meet Mukesh sir, and by that time my beard was quite grown as I was doing a South project at that time. When I met Mukesh sir, he liked my look, and then I did the look test again. That’s when they offered me the role.”
“I was then told that the director is Aditya Dhar and the cast includes Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, among others. I was amazed and accepted the opportunity,” he added.
He is grateful to both Aditya and Mukesh for getting him on board and said, “Aditya sir is very supportive.” Despite having such a big unit, everything went so smoothly. I am grateful to Aditya Sir and Mukesh Chabbra Sir.”
Sunil’s main focus as a gang member of Hamza Ali Mazari, the character portrayed by Ranveer Singh, was to keep it real and relatable. He said, “On a practical level, I focused on body language, dialogue delivery, and subtle expressions to make Shaukat feel authentic. There were also rehearsals and discussions that helped refine each scene.”
And though he did not have much dialogue in the movie, Aditya’s words were a subtle reminder of how craft goes beyond that. He said, “He had told me at that time that dialogues aren’t necessary all the time. The way you act in a scene matters the most. I enjoyed my work, and when I saw myself on screen, I was very happy.”
While he had a great time shooting with the ensemble cast, Akshaye particularly left an impact on him. “From Akshaye sir, one of the biggest takeaways was his incredible restraint and control. Watching him, I learned how powerful silence and minimalism can be on screen,” Sunil ended.
