Focus on substance over shine, says entrepreneur Gauravv Saxena
Mumbai: Entrepreneur Gauravv Saxena believes that true success is built on the balanced foundation of health, happiness, wealth and love. Reflecting on his personal and professional journey, he says that while all four pillars are important, he has made the most progress in the areas of health and happiness.
тАЬWhile all four are interconnected, I believe IтАЩve made the most significant strides in health and happiness. IтАЩve learned that health isnтАЩt just a gym habit; itтАЩs the emotional resilience to handle a bad day and the mental clarity to stay focused,тАЭ he says.
According to him, happiness has also evolved over time. тАЬI used to look for contentment in milestones, but now I find it in the quiet moments of purpose. IтАЩm still a work in progress when it comes to the perfect balance of wealth and love, but having a solid internal foundation makes the pursuit of others much more sustainable,тАЭ he adds.
Talking about the role of career and money in life, Gauravv says that while financial success can provide stability, it cannot solve deeper human needs. тАЬI disagree that career and money sort everything, but I agree they provide the floor. Money is an incredible tool тАФ it buys time, health care and experiences тАФ but it is a poor substitute for character or connection,тАЭ he says.
тАЬYou can have a high-powered career and still feel a profound sense of loneliness or lack of purpose. Career and money solve your survival problems, but they donтАЩt solve your human problems,тАЭ he adds.
Gauravv also shares that his career goals have changed over time. тАЬEarlier in my career, the goal was simply to be good at what I do and earn a seat at the table. Now my тАШwhyтАЩ has shifted toward autonomy and mentorship. I want to lead projects that solve real-world problems while having the freedom to own my time,тАЭ he says.
For him, success today is more about credibility than position. тАЬSuccess to me now isnтАЩt just a title; itтАЩs being the person in the room whose opinion is valued because itтАЩs backed by integrity, not just ego,тАЭ he says.
Speaking about the difference between expectations and reality in the professional world, Gauravv points out that the glamorous image of success can often be misleading. тАЬIn the professional world, the glitter is often the external validation тАФ the fancy office, the LinkedIn announcements or the hustle culture that looks like productivity.
тАЬThe reality is that the gold is actually of mundane consistency. A dream job still has spreadsheets, difficult emails and repetitive tasks. The glitter attracts people to a career, but the gold is the grit and the culture of the people you work with every day,тАЭ he adds.
Reflecting on lessons learned along the way, he says he would give his younger self a simple piece of advice. тАЬStop treating your life like a race where the finish line keeps moving.тАЭ
тАЬI would tell myself to invest in the pillars early, especially the ones that donтАЩt pay a salary. I spent so much time worrying about wealth that I neglected health and love at times. Being busy is not a badge of honour тАФ itтАЩs often just a lack of priority,тАЭ he adds.
Encouraging people to embrace life more fully, he concludes, тАЬTake the trip, call your family and donтАЩt be so afraid of making a mistake. The mistakes are usually where the best stories and lessons come from.тАЭ
