Somy Ali remembers her ‘special’ cameo with Govinda in AgniChakra

Mumbai: Actress-turned-humanitarian Somy Ali, now widely known for running her US-based NGO No More Tears, recently took fans on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. She shared a heartfelt post about her appearance in a Bollywood film, a cameo in Agnichakra, which she describes as “special” because it was opposite none other than superstar Govinda. Somy, who acted in films through the early to mid-1990s, had featured in projects like Anth, Yaar Gaddar, and Andolan. Despite her brief stay in the industry, she carved her place in Hindi cinema with her striking screen presence and strong performances. Looking back, she admitted her last project happened quite unexpectedly.

“Back to my last film which had to be a cameo/special appearance and ‘special’ it was with none other than Chichi (AKA Govinda). I recall having my flight back home to Miami the very next day, but how could I leave Mumbai without having done even a special appearance with Chichi. I didn’t even have time to listen to my role, but the minute my agent who was also Govinda’s agent said it’s with Chichi, I was more than ecstatic,” she wrote. The actress revealed that she played Govinda’s ex-girlfriend who had passed away, with her scene coming towards the film’s end. But for her, the true highlight was not the role but the chance to share screen space with an actor she had admired for years. “If I begin writing the qualities Govinda has there wouldn’t be any space left,” she said warmly. She also recalled a personal moment that highlighted his humility. “I do recall him coming over to my flat on Mount Mary Road and we sat on the floor eating daal chawal together. My favorite meal, and I have always loved sitting on the floor as opposed to a dining table. To my surprise, so did this star,” she shared. Somy went on to praise Govinda’s grounded nature, calling him “the nicest, most down-to-earth, not an arrogant bone in his body, excellent sense of humour, and to this day the most decent human in the Hindi cinema industry.”
