Mumbai: 21 July 1969 – The world watched in awe as astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon.
21 July 2025 – Mumbai witnessed another kind of landmark: the rise of powerful storytelling at the Screenlights International Film Festival, where the feature film Tara – The Journey of Love & Passion won the Best Women Empowerment Film Award. Directed and produced by veteran filmmaker Kumar Raj, Tara features a moving performance by Rekha Rana, whose portrayal of the title role is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. The screenplay, written by Dr. Prof. Kishan Pawar, tells the courageous journey of a woman who rises against all odds, navigating societal constraints with unwavering spirit.
Festival Co-Director Ganesh Gunjal praised the film during the ceremony:
“Tara isn’t just a film—it’s a powerful narrative about strength, sacrifice, and silent rebellion. We’re proud to recognize it here in Mumbai.”
Though Screenlights is widely known for promoting short and experimental cinema, Tara, a full-length feature, broke the mold. The film earned a standing ovation and widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike.
With this prestigious win, Tara – The Journey of Love & Passion once again affirms a timeless truth:
Cinema with purpose has no boundaries—only depth.
Congratulations to the entire Tara team!
