थाईलैंड के ऐतिहासिक अयुत्थया (Ayutthaya) शहर में एक प्रमुख बौद्ध भिक्षु से जुड़ा मामला सामने आया है, जिसने धार्मिक संस्थानों में वित्तीय और नैतिक आचरण को लेकर बड़ा विवाद खड़ा कर दिया है। Wat Phutthaisawan मंदिर के 66 वर्षीय अब्बट Phra Wachirayan Wi को मंदिर की कथित धनराशि के गबन और सेक्स स्कैंडल के मामले में गिरफ्तार किया गया है। पुलिस जांच के दौरान उनके एक महिला के साथ कथित अंतरंग संबंधों से जुड़े CCTV फुटेज भी सामने आए।
CCTV ने खोला सेक्स स्कैंडल
वित्तीय जांच के दौरान पुलिस को अब्बट के घर से CCTV फुटेज मिले। रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, फुटेज में उन्हें 47 वर्षीय Punyavee Rungrueang नाम की महिला के साथ अंतरंग स्थिति में देखा गया। महिला पर कथित तौर पर गबन की रकम को बदलने और छिपाने में मदद करने का आरोप है। बौद्ध भिक्षुओं के लिए ब्रह्मचर्य और सांसारिक संपत्ति से दूरी धार्मिक अनुशासन का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है। इसलिए इस मामले में वित्तीय आरोपों के साथ सामने आया सेक्स स्कैंडल भी गंभीर धार्मिक विवाद बन गया है।

UNN/Bangkok :  A Buddhist abbot in Thailand’s historic city of Ayutthaya has been arrested over allegations of embezzling more than 92 million baht (around ₹24 crore) in temple funds. The case has also sparked a major scandal after investigators reportedly uncovered CCTV footage showing the monk in an intimate situation with a woman.
The 66-year-old abbot, Phra Wachirayan Wi, was reportedly taken into custody following an investigation into suspicious financial transactions involving temple donations. Authorities allege that money collected through temple donation receipts was not deposited into the temple’s official accounts.
During a search linked to the investigation, police reportedly discovered large amounts of cash, gold and other valuable assets. Investigators are now examining whether the seized assets were connected to the alleged missing temple funds.
The case took another dramatic turn when investigators reportedly found CCTV footage from the abbot’s residence showing him with a 47-year-old woman. Police are investigating the woman’s alleged role in the financial case as well as the circumstances surrounding their relationship.
The allegations are particularly serious because Buddhist monks in Thailand are expected to follow strict rules concerning celibacy and personal conduct. Following the investigation, the abbot was reportedly defrocked, ending his status as a Buddhist monk.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged financial transactions, the source of the assets recovered during the searches and the possible involvement of others. The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and guilt will ultimately be determined by the courts.
