Bengal teacher recruitment scam : After Mamata sacks Partha Chatterjee as minister, Abhishek announces his suspension from TMC
Kolkata: Facing intense pressure from the opposition over corruption charges, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of Mamata Banerjee on Thursday sacked Partha Chatterjee as the minister and suspended him from all party posts. He was the party’s general secretary and held three portfolios – Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Enterprise; Ministry for Information Technology and Electronics; Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs – in the Mamata cabinet. All three portfolios are now with the Chief Minister.
Announcing his suspension, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said Partha Chatterjee has been removed from the TMC along with the post of General Secretary, National vice president and three other posts. “He has been suspended till the investigation is underway. He can come back if proven not guilty,” he said.
Banerjee said the probe into the matter is underway and if anyone commits something wrong then the TMC won’t spare him. “There will be zero tolerance for corruption. Investigating agency must complete the probe within the time limit. Even in Sarada case nothing happened, it’s just lingering. There should be a time-bound investigation,” Abhishek Banerjee added.
Abhishek also said that Arpita Mukherjee from whose house sums of money were recovered wasn’t from the TMC. “We want stringent action against those who are linked to this matter,” he said.
