Don Bosco Alumni Liluah Host REUNION 2026 Celebrating a Century of Salesian Legacy with Women Achievers

kolkata: Don Bosco Alumni Liluah (DBL) organised REUNION 2026 тАУ Back to School, a grand homecoming event on Sunday, 18 January 2026, at the Don Bosco School, Liluah campus. The event brought together ex-students from the batch of 1970 to the present, celebrating nostalgia, fellowship and the enduring values of the Salesian mission.
Addressing the gathering, the President of DBL highlighted that Reunion 2026 was dedicated to 100 years of the Salesian presence in Kolkata. Exactly a century ago, on 11 November 1925, three Salesian priests arrived at Howrah Station carrying Don BoscoтАЩs dream – a mission that has since transformed thousands of lives through education and social service.
The sprawling campus of Don Bosco School, Liluah, warmly welcomed its alumni, many of whom travelled from across the country and beyond, rekindling memories with former classmates and teachers.
As part of the celebrations, and in continuation of the Adult Literacy Project initiated in 1961, a panel discussion on тАЬEmpowering Women 2026тАЭ was organised. The session was mentored by film producer and alumnus Mr Amit Agarwal, with participation from eminent personalities: Mr Asoke Vishwanathan (the moderator of the session) and panellists included Dr Shyamal Samanta, IPS, Ms Smita Roy Chowdhury, Ms Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Ms Ekavalli Khanna, Ms Mamta Binani, Ms Kanak Lata Datta, Ms Richa Sharma.

The event also marked a historic moment with the introduction of the first-ever DBL Achievers Awards 2026, honouring distinguished achievers, especially women who have excelled in their respective fields and emerged as role models. The women awardees for 2026 were: Manoshi Roy Chowdhury (Education), Smita Roy Chowdhury (Media), Mamta Binani (Corporate), Dola Banerji (Sports), Kanak Lata Datta (Fashion & Lifestyle), Ekavalli Khanna (Film & Entertainment), Dr Rupali Basu (Healthcare), Tarrunum Malik Jain (Music), Richa Sharma (Fashion & Lifestyle) and Sangeeta Maheshwari (Social Service). The men achievers included Dr. Shyamal Samanta (Public Service), Ashoke Viswanathan and Amit Agarwal in Film & Entertainment category. Amit Agarwal was the first ever Don Bosco School, Liluah Alumni to receive the AchieversтАЩ Award in its maiden edition.
Additionally, the event also recognised past pupil doctors and chartered accountants by awarding and felicitating them for their professional contributions under тАЬRecognising Alumni 2026тАЭ session.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Biswanath Trivedi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr Amit Agarwal (Batch of 1993) for his immense support in organising the reunion. When we approached and met Amit Agarwal to recognise and award him on Reunion Day for his achievements in the film and entertainment field, we also requested him to guide us on how we can make the Reunion event bigger and more unique. He came up with the idea that instead of getting recognised solely, why donтАЩt we also recognise women achievers. The idea was seconded by all the committee members, and тАЬEmpowering WomenтАЭ and тАЬDBL AchieversтАЩ AwardтАЭ were incorporated into the reunion event, which has now become one of the most impactful events in the history of DBL Reunion events тАУ says Biswanath. He also announced the formation of profession-based alumni groups, aimed at fostering collaboration, business opportunities, and employment support among former students.
Avinash Agarwal from the 1995 (ISC) Batch, who travelled all the way from Birmingham, UK, to attend the reunion, was highly emotional to be at his alma mater after 30 years. He said he felt rejuvenated. “IтАЩll go back to the UK with lot of memories and motivated. I wish to come back every year if I get the opportunity.
Amit Agarwal, the first-ever alumnus to receive the DBL AchieversтАЩ Award, was sounding very emotional and nostalgic as he got recognised on the same stage after 30 yearsтАФhis alma mater now. He was earlier recognised in 1995 for excelling in Economics, scoring the highest marks in his ISC Boards. He said he feels motivated to perform to the best further. His favourite spots were always the stairs of the auditorium and the church, where he used to hang out with his friends post music practice and during playtime/post-school hours, respectively.
Fr Sanjay Manohar Kujur, Rector Principal of Don Bosco School, Liluah, welcomed the guests and reaffirmed the Salesian commitment to the upliftment of women and youth from marginalized sections of society.
Rev Fr Joseph Pauria, Provincial of the Kolkata Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco, appreciated the DBL AlumniтАЩs sustained social initiatives, particularly the Free Medical Camps and the Adult Literacy Project.
The memorable evening concluded with a live orchestra and a sumptuous dinner, as alumni departed with the promise of coming Back to School once again next year.
