UNN/Andy Sengiah: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim went to China to make history when he became the first foreign figure to meet the country’s president, Xi Jinping, who was recently re-elected for a third term.The seventh president and as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China replaced Hu Jintao since 2013, re-elected during the 14th National People’s Congress on March 10.According to Wisma Putra’s statement, this is also his maiden visit to China since becoming the 10th Malaysian head of government and also the first foreign leader to meet the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang.Commenting further, Wisma Putra said Anwar’s visit from today until this Saturday was also accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir and senior government officials discussed various strategic issues with Jinping including the strengthening of bilateral relations after the Covid-19 epidemic.The significant achievement is evidence of a strong and lasting bilateral relationship based on mutual respect, trust and mutual interest,” he said.In fact since 2009, China has been Malaysia’s largest global trading partner and last year, the trade value reached RM487 billion which is a 15 percent increase from 2021.
