Security stepping in is not attitude, it is safety: Aanchal Khurana

Mumbai: Television actress Aanchal Khurana, known for winning MTV Roadies 8 and later appearing in Hindi television shows like ’Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke,’ ‘Sarojini – Ek Nayi Pehal,’ ‘Zindagi Ki Mehek,’ ‘Roop – Mard Ka Naya Swaroop,’ ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2,’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karoge,’, has spoken about the growing pressure celebrities face at public events and how security intervention has become a necessity rather than a choice.
She said people often underestimate what actually happens in crowded public spaces around celebrities.
“Absolutely,” she said. “People often see celebrities through a screen and forget they are human beings in real life. A crowd rush might look harmless to some, but when dozens of people start pushing, grabbing, or invading personal space, it can become unsafe very quickly. Security stepping in is not about attitude or creating distance. It is about basic safety.”

On fan behaviour and boundaries, she said genuine admiration still exists, but social media has changed how some people act in public. “I think genuine fans still understand and respect boundaries,” she said. “The problem is that social media has blurred those lines for some people. Everyone wants a selfie, a viral moment, or a reaction they can post online. Admiration is beautiful. Entitlement is not. Supporting someone does not mean you own access to them.”
Talking about whether celebrities should tolerate crowd chaos at events, she said safety has to come first regardless of fame. “No one should be expected to tolerate chaos, celebrity or not,” she said. “Stronger security today is a necessity. The bigger the crowd, the more unpredictable situations become. Security is not there to stop fan interactions. It is there to make sure those interactions happen safely and respectfully for everyone involved.”
On viral videos of security intervention, she said the perception today is shaped more by cameras than reality. “Partly, yes,” she said. “Events have become more crowded, more publicized, and every moment is being filmed. One small incident can go viral within minutes. I do not think we are necessarily seeing more incidents. We are seeing more of them because every phone is now a camera and every clip becomes content.”
She added that security moments often reflect both protection and the intensity of fame. “Honestly, both,” she said. “A bodyguard’s job is to protect, and in moments like these they are doing exactly that. But it also highlights how overwhelming fame can become. When a person needs a physical barrier just to move through a crowd, it shows how intense public attention can be.”
