No VFX, Just Real Chitrakoot: Shri Ramayan Katha Reveals Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora’s Shoot as Ram & Sita
Mumbai : Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has unveiled a BTS clip revealing that Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora, who portray Ram and Sita, were filmed at the real landscapes of Chitrakoot in Bastar, Chhattisgarh — bringing a rare sense of authenticity to the film.In a significant filmmaking choice, the makers went beyond elaborate sets and VFX, choosing to shoot at the actual location associated with the Ramayana. Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha is the only film among the major Ramayana-based films — Adipurush, Ranbir Kapoor-Yash’s Ramayana and Shri Ramayan Katha — to have actually shot at locations mentioned in the epic.
Chitrakoot holds immense significance in the Ramayana and is traditionally associated with the Vanvaas of Lord Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman. It is also linked to the emotional meeting between Bharat and Ram, when Bharat urged his brother to return to Ayodhya and reclaim the throne.
For Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora, being in these real surroundings offered an opportunity to imagine the lives of Ram and Sita beyond the pages of the epic.
Dev Sharma shared, “Shooting in Chitrakoot, a place so closely associated with Ram ji’s Vanvaas, was a deeply special experience. Standing amidst these forests made me think about the journey Ram ji undertook and the strength and resilience it must have required. The real location brought a completely different emotion to the portrayal.”
Anjali Arora added, “Shooting in Chitrakoot was a very different experience for me. While we were there, I kept imagining how Ram ji and Sita ji must have spent their days in these forests during their Vanvaas. It made me realise how difficult those 14 years must have been — living away from everything familiar and adapting to a completely different life. At the same time, there is something very peaceful and divine about the real forests here. You can actually feel a certain stillness in the surroundings, and being there as Sita ji made me connect with the character in a much deeper way. It’s an experience I will genuinely carry with me.”The newly released BTS clip offers audiences a glimpse of the film’s real-location approach, bringing the world of Ramayana closer to the landscapes associated with the epic.Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha is slated to release in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi languages in cinemas on 25th September 2026.
