It was truly an honour and a very special moment for me to launch my book Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear at the NFDC” : Actress-Author Dhruvee Haldankar
Mumbai: Actress and author Dhruvee Haldankar recently unveiled her book “Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear”. Based on the life of her father – noted cinematographer Deepak Haldankar. Dhruvee, who is immensely grateful to NFDC, shares her feelings. ”With the appointment of Prakash Magdum as the Managing Director of National Film Development Corporation of India, I truly feel Indian cinema is in very thoughtful hands. He is a 1999-batch Indian Information Service officer and has earlier served as Additional Director General at the Press Information Bureau and the Central Bureau of Communication in Ahmedabad. What many people may not know is that he is also a genuine lover of cinema and a writer at heart. During my journey of putting this book together, he was extremely approachable and supportive, especially when it came to acknowledging my father’s contribution to Indian cinematography. Many of my father’s films are preserved in the NFDC archives, and he understood how important it was to celebrate that legacy.”
Sharing more on the prestigious launch of her book Dhruvee says,”It was truly an honour and a very special moment for me to launch my book Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear at the NFDC. The venue itself carries immense cultural and cinematic value, and it felt deeply meaningful to celebrate my father’s journey in a space that has always supported meaningful and path-breaking cinema. It made the occasion feel even more iconic and memorable. NFDC has always been associated with thoughtful and dignified cinematic spaces. Over the years, it has created platforms that celebrate meaningful cinema and serious conversations around the craft of filmmaking. Events hosted there naturally carry a certain elegance and intellectual depth, which makes them feel very special for artists and filmmakers.”
The event also witnessed a number of celebrities, who were present to honour Deepak Haldankar’s work. ”I feel extremely grateful. Many friends and members of the film fraternity came forward to support me and be part of the evening. What touched me the most was that those who attended truly understood that cinema is not only about glamour. It is also about intelligence, craft, and the silent brilliance of artists like cinematographers who shape the visual soul of a film. Cinema is not merely about beauty on screen — it is about vision, thought, and the people behind the lens who create history. Their presence made the evening even more meaningful for me.”
The book, published by Vitasta Publishing, chronicles the remarkable life and cinematic journey of the veteran filmmaker.
The launch event took place at the auditorium of the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) in Mumbai and was supported by NU brand.
