Zee TV launches Saru starring Mohak Matkar, Shagun Pandey, Anushka Merchande
Mumbai: Zee TV is all set to premiere its new fiction show Saru, a story that puts the spotlight on the quiet resilience and unshakeable determination of a village girl aiming to break free from traditional constraints. Produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions, the show will launch on 12 May 2025 and air every day at 7:30 PM.
The series follows Saru, a young woman from Khares village in Rajasthan, who dares to dream of higher education and a future beyond the life prescribed to her by society. With limited resources in her village and a hesitant mother holding her back, Saru’s move to Mumbai for college becomes a turning point in her life. The show captures the emotional and personal challenges she faces as she navigates a world far removed from her roots.
Actor Mohak Matkar makes her lead debut as Saru – a kabaddi champion with aspirations of becoming a district commissioner. Despite her confidence and independence, Saru remains grounded and vulnerable, making her journey relatable to many. Opposing her path is Anika, played by Anushka Merchande – a privileged, attention-loving girl whose growing dislike for Saru brings conflict and drama into the storyline. Shagun Pandey plays the role of Ved Birla, a college lecturer with strong principles and a reputation for standing his ground. His character adds support and depth to Saru’s evolving journey.
To bring alive the show’s cultural essence, the launch event in Mumbai featured a special Kathputli (puppet) performance by a Rajasthani troupe, reflecting Saru’s roots and symbolizing her transition from rural life to the city.
