Sharad Kelkar Opens Up About Evolution Of Wedding Tracks On TV

Mumbai: Actor Sharad Kelkar has spoken about the evolving portrayal of marriages and relationships on Indian television today. Currently seen essaying the role of Arya in Tumm Se Tumm Tak produced by Studio LSD, the actor reflected on how storytelling around relationships has changed over the years. Interestingly, Sharad’s television journey began with the iconic show Saat Phere, a story deeply centred around emotions, family bonds, and marriage.
Over the years, wedding sequences on television have transformed significantly. What once focused largely on grandeur and celebrations has now evolved into storytelling that explores emotional depth, realism, companionship, and the complexities of modern relationships.
Reflecting on this evolution, Sharad shared, “Coming back to a wedding track on Zee TV after all these years feels extremely nostalgic because my television journey also started with a show like Saat Phere, where relationships and marriage were always at the heart of the story. But what I feel has changed the most today is the way marriage is perceived on television. Earlier, weddings were mostly showcased as grand celebrations, but now audiences connect more with the emotional reality of relationships — the flaws, the companionship, the struggles, and the choices people make to stay together.”Talking about his own growth as an actor, he added, “As an actor, I feel I’ve evolved a lot too. Earlier, you simply performed scenes, but today you understand silences, emotions, and the emotional weight a character carries much more deeply. Arya is emotionally layered — someone who appears strong on the outside but is vulnerable internally — and that makes this wedding track even more meaningful for me. Somewhere, actors also grow along with the audience. Today, viewers connect more with honesty than perfection, and that shift has made storytelling far more interesting. So, doing a wedding track now after so many years in the industry feels less about spectacle and more about celebrating a journey that audiences have emotionally invested in.”
