Mumbai: Entrepreneur Gauravv Saxena believes that the growing participation of students in raising concerns over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations reflects a positive sign for democracy. Sharing his views on the ongoing movement led by students, Saxena said that young people demanding transparency should be seen as a call for systemic reform rather than mere protest.
“When young people come together to raise their concerns, it is not merely a protest—it is the heartbeat of a healthy democracy,” he said. “The movement highlights a significant shift in how students are demanding transparency. Their willingness to voice dissent, even in the face of immense pressure, reflects a deep desire for a meritocratic system where hard work is rewarded fairly rather than undermined by corruption.”
Speaking about the role of influential personalities in shaping public discourse, Gauravv said that public figures have an important responsibility to amplify issues that deserve wider attention. “Public figures hold a unique amplifier role,” he said. “While they are not substitutes for policymakers or subject experts, they possess the reach to bring neglected issues into the mainstream. When a celebrity or public intellectual lends their voice to a cause, they bridge the gap between student grievances and national awareness. It is not just a responsibility—it is a way to ensure that the struggles of the younger generation are not lost in the echo chambers of the elite.”
Commenting on the support extended by personalities such as Shabana Azmi, Shobhaa De, and Prakash Raj to student-related causes, Saxena noted that celebrity advocacy can significantly influence public conversations. “The impact of respected public figures lies in their ability to validate students’ struggles in the eyes of the nation,” he said. “When influential voices highlight these concerns, it becomes far more difficult for the media or authorities to ignore or dismiss them. While celebrity advocacy alone cannot solve complex issues, it certainly raises the political cost of remaining silent or indifferent.”
Gauravv also expressed his support for peaceful and democratic forms of protest, citing education reformer Sonam Wangchuk’s approach as an example of conviction-driven activism. “Methods such as peaceful protests and hunger strikes have a long and respected place in the history of civil disobedience,” he said. “By putting their own well-being on the line, individuals demonstrate the seriousness of the crisis they are highlighting. Such actions compel society to confront the human cost of systemic failures and bring attention to the ethical urgency of the demands being made.”
Addressing the reforms needed to restore students’ confidence in the examination system, Gauravv emphasized that meaningful change requires structural improvements rather than symbolic assurances.
“Restoring trust requires more than promises—it demands a comprehensive overhaul of the system,” he said. “We need greater institutional accountability by strengthening and professionalizing examination bodies with higher levels of autonomy and transparency. Technology must be leveraged through secure end-to-end encrypted paper delivery systems and AI-driven monitoring to prevent leaks before they occur. At the same time, there should be transparent, time-bound grievance redressal mechanisms so students feel heard rather than ignored. Most importantly, those responsible for compromising the future of millions of students must face swift and stringent legal consequences.”
