Gurmeet Choudhary Reacts to the Viral US Racism Row, Pens a Note: Racism against Indians anywhere in the world cannot be normalized anymore
Mumbai: Actor Gurmeet Choudhary has raised his voice critcising racist remarks made to an Indian couple in the United States of America after a video of a roadside interaction went viral online. Gurmeet took to his social media handle to share a note, emphasising that racism against Indians or people of any nationality anywhere in the must not be normalized anymore.
An X user posted a video that he appeared to have recorded from his car while approaching the Indian couple and questioning them about their background and their reason to stay in the US. The viral clip ignited strong reactions online, with many labelling the remark as unnecessary.
Speaking up about the same, Gurmeet wrote, “Racism against Indians anywhere in the world cannot be normalized anymore. For years, many stayed silent, ignored the insults, and kept moving forward. But respect is not optional. Indians contribute globally with hard work, talent, intelligence, and humanity. We deserve the same dignity and respect as anyone else. This is not against any country or people this is against racism. Enough silence. Stand for respect. Stand for humanity please #JaiHind.”
In the viral video, the man asked the couple, “Are you from India?” After the couple replied with a positive response, he went on to ask whether they liked America and which country they thought was better, America or India. The couple extended a diplomatic answer, stating that both countries have their positives and they have their own value. They also added that India meant family.
The interaction turned hostile when the man said, тАЬIndia is so incredible, why don’t you just stay in India? Why do you have to come to America?” When the couple shared that they wanted to explore the world, he replied with, тАЬNo, we don’t want you here. You got to go home. Okay? Get out of my country.” The video was shared with a caption that read, тАЬI encountered some incredible H-1B Indians, and I had to let them know something!”
The video drew strong reactions online, and Gurmeet ChoudharyтАЩs note added to the criticism and attracted attention for the remarks made to the couple.
